About Pacific Martial Arts

Pacific Martial Arts in Fresno, CA was opened in 1996 by Matt Smith and now trains over 700 students with what it says are 36 active black belts teaching under one roof, running classes inside partner FitRepublic gyms. It teaches gi and no-gi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, submission grappling, wrestling in all three styles under coach Nikko Reyes, and more than a dozen other martial disciplines including karate and Eskrima. Kids train from age 3 (Little Ninjas) to 16, grouped 5-10 and 10-16, with three to four black belts on the kids classes. Founder and head instructor Matt Smith is a 4th degree BJJ black belt under Professor David Camarillo as well as an 8th degree karate black belt, an 8th degree equivalent in Eskrima and a 4th degree in Taekwondo; 2nd degree black belt Eduardo Crema competes at ADCC Opens, and the school runs a dedicated women's program taught by female black belts.
