About Soma Jiu-Jitsu Academy of Idaho Falls
SOMA Jiu-Jitsu Academy at 1572 N Hitt Road in Idaho Falls first opened on 1 November 1994 as The Academy of Martial Arts, giving it more than three decades in eastern Idaho. It teaches Gracie Jiu-Jitsu to adults at every level and runs a three-tier youth program: Little Porcupines for ages 4-6, Youth Level 1 for roughly 6-9, and Youth Level 2 for teenagers approaching adulthood. Founder and head instructor Professor Jared Emfield is a 3rd-degree Gracie Jiu-Jitsu black belt under Rickson Gracie, Pedro Sauer and Matt Strack who also holds a PhD in Educational Leadership, and the school pitches its curriculum as self-mastery and self-defense rather than competition and belts.
