About American Jiu-Jitsu Karate Association International
The American Jiu-Jitsu Karate Association International (AJKAI) is a martial arts membership association founded in 1945 by Douglas L. Grose, and describes itself as one of the oldest such associations in the United States. Its main styles are Shinto Yoshin Ryu jiu-jitsu — a Japanese gendai goshin system that emphasises striking, punching, kicking and weapons alongside grappling, and is explicitly taught as self-defense rather than sport — and Shin-Mei Shorin Ryu karate-jutsu do. Membership is open to martial artists of all styles, and the association is run by a board of directors with state directors in California, Illinois, Nevada and Pennsylvania.
