About EMU Azteca Boxing and Fitness Club

EMU Azteca Boxing and Fitness Club on Easton Boulevard on the east side of Des Moines, Iowa is a community-based club aimed at underserved residents and students from Des Moines public schools, with a particular focus on East High. It runs four programmes weekday evenings - kids boxing for ages 6-11, a starter class for ages 12 and up, an advanced class for experienced boxers with sparring, and a women's fitness class - plus a Sunday session reserved for competing fighters. Owner and coach Enrique Uvalle, who started boxing in Laredo, Texas in 2007, won 30 amateur belts with two losses and two Golden Gloves titles across two weight divisions before turning professional at 4-3, and takes young fighters to Silver Gloves, Golden Gloves and USA Boxing tournaments nationwide.
