About Rough Hands BJJ
Rough Hands BJJ is an independent 6,000 sq ft training centre at 3048 Bardstown Rd in Louisville, Kentucky, with three training floors, a weight room and showers, specialising in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and submission grappling. It was co-founded in 2017 by head coach Jesse Walker — a black belt under 6th-degree black belt Chris Haueter, also a Krav Maga black belt and TEDx speaker — and youth programme director Shelby York. Classes are age-banded as BJJ First Steps (4-6), kids (7-12), teens (13-16) and adults (17+), built around a beginner 'Core Game' curriculum that gives new students a working starter set of positions rather than a random technique each night; there is also a SafeFall class for ages 55+ teaching how to fall safely, private training and a Japanese jujutsu programme headed by Jim Mahanes. Military and first responders train free every Thursday.
