About Aikido of Maine
Aikido of Maine is an aikido dojo at 226 Anderson Street on the Portland peninsula, a member school of Aikido Schools of Ueshiba, the organisation founded by Mitsugi Saotome Shihan. It teaches adult aikido from beginner to advanced, including ASU weapons forms with staff, sword and paired two-sword practice, and a children's programme for ages 7-12; there is no competition, no matches and no sparring in the practice. Instruction is led by Gary and Ania Small, both awarded the Ueshiba Juku designation by Saotome Shihan, and the dojo hosts regular seminars and teacher retreats and runs adult kyu tests.
