About Battleground Jiu Jitsu Academy

BattleGround Jiu-Jitsu Academy is a father-and-son run BJJ school in West Springfield, Massachusetts. Owner and head instructor Ricardo Gonzalez ("Papa Bear") started training in 2010 after watching his son Xavier, earned his black belt and medalled at IBJJF and NAGA events; he opened a garage dojo in 2021 and the West Springfield academy four years later. Programmes are kids jiu-jitsu split into ages 5-9 (Little Samurai) and 10-14 (Rising Samurai), adult BJJ for 15 and up, an MMA Cardio conditioning class and open mat. Newcomers get a free week, and visitors can train on a $15 day pass.
