About Northwest Martial Arts
Northwest Martial Arts Academy at 755 Charnelton Street in Eugene calls itself the city's original Brazilian Jiu Jitsu studio, established in 1995. It runs adult BJJ (ages 14+) in fundamentals and all-levels tracks, kickboxing/Muay Thai, a women's-only BJJ and self-defense class, and youth BJJ split into Raccoons (6-9), Foxes (10-14) and an invite-only Wolves black belt leadership program, plus open mats on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Owner and head instructor Professor Harold Utterback has been with the academy since its inception and is a two-stripe black belt under 4x world championship medallist Wellington 'Megaton' Dias, in a lineage the school traces through Helio and Royler Gracie.
