About Jitsu Academy SC
Jitsu Academy SC is at 1674 Lake Murray Blvd in Columbia, South Carolina, opened in January 2022 as the second Jitsu Academy location and significantly expanded in October 2025. It teaches gi and no-gi Brazilian jiu-jitsu, a BJJ fundamentals class, striking/MMA drawing on Muay Thai, boxing, kickboxing and wrestling, a women's BJJ class, and kids' BJJ for ages 4-14. It is owned and run by Danilo Cherman — a 5th-degree black belt under André "Dede" Pederneiras of Nova União, three-time CBJJO World Champion and a retired professional MMA fighter with a 10-4 record — and his wife Jessica Cherman, a second-degree black belt, IBJJF World Master champion and three-time Pan American champion who built and runs the women's programme.
