About Karate World SSB
Karate World was opened by Jason McCormick in 1995 and now teaches a blended curriculum of karate, kickboxing and Brazilian jiu-jitsu across several South Carolina sites, with the Murrells Inlet location built around jiu-jitsu. Its programmes are Lil' Dragons (a 30-minute introductory class for the youngest students), Youth Martial Arts, Teen/Adult Martial Arts, Kids Jiu-Jitsu focused on non-violent grappling and negotiating with bullies, Adult Jiu-Jitsu covering mount, side mount, guard, half guard, back mount, leg locks and standing, and private or semi-private lessons. The school runs a monthly newsletter with a student of the month, hosts visiting jiu-jitsu seminars, and opened a Pawleys Island location in January 2026.
