It is run by husband-and-wife black belts Saad and Suay Al-Aziz, both longtime students of 8th-degree coral belt Luiz Palhares: Saad is a 3rd-degree BJJ black belt certified by the IBJJF and FJJ Rio, also a Luta Livre black belt under Hugo Duarte and a Hapkido black belt, and retired from the US Navy as a Lieutenant Commander after 33 years; Suay is a 2nd-degree black belt and one of only two women ever promoted to black belt by Palhares, a judo black belt, a Level 3 Ginastica Natural instructor and a US Army veteran. The academy is an official training center for the We Defy Foundation, which supports combat-disabled veterans.
