BJJ in San Diego

San Diego is one of the top BJJ markets in the United States — probably second only to Los Angeles in concentration of high-level academies. The headline brand is Atos Jiu-Jitsu, whose HQ is a competition powerhouse run by André Galvão and Ramon Lemos. Alliance, Gracie Barra, Ribeiro Jiu-Jitsu, and 10th Planet also have flagship or well-established affiliates in the city proper, and the scene stretches from Point Loma through Mission Valley, North Park, and into the South Bay.

Expect monthly dues to span widely — $140 to $250+ isn't unusual for unlimited adult memberships, and Atos in particular sits at the premium end. Most San Diego gyms run strong kids and competition programs, and the Southern California climate means outdoor open-mat events are a year-round thing. If you're new to BJJ or visiting, San Diego is one of the easiest places in the country to find a gym that fits.
