About Iron Roots Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

Iron Roots Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Colorado Springs is owned and taught by two black belts, Professor Dan Ries and Professor Erin Johnson, both promoted under Professor Paul Tom in the Flavio Behring lineage. The academy runs gi and no-gi adult classes, a rotating eight-week fundamentals course, advanced classes, a competition class, drilling sessions, open mats, a women's-only class and Muay Thai kickboxing, plus MMA classes added on Tuesdays and Thursdays at noon. Kids train in two tiers, Ninja (5-6) and Samurai (7-12), in both gi and no-gi. The school runs a quarterly two-day women's self-defence camp — completion of which grants free access to all future camps — and its instructors are certified in Smart Defense, the Elizabeth Smart Foundation's trauma-informed programme.
