About Uptown Jiu Jitsu
Uptown Jiu Jitsu is a Honolulu academy teaching Brazilian jiu-jitsu for self-defense to adults and children, led by head instructor Shane Agena, a Relson Gracie black belt who began training at the Main Academy in 1996 and was promoted in 2009. Its staff of five includes a second Relson Gracie black belt, Jeff Furuta, and black belt Kimmie Agena, who runs much of the children's coaching, plus purple and blue belt assistant instructors. The school emphasises practical, real-world technique in a fun and friendly environment and offers a free trial arranged by phone.
