About Self Reliant Jiu Jitsu
Self Reliant Jiu Jitsu opened in Southeast Boise in 2022 under head instructor J. Andrew Thomas, a world champion black belt and student of the Mendes brothers whose own record includes 2021 IBJJF No-Gi World double gold and 2022 Pan-Am gold at superheavy. The academy is explicitly competition-focused and offers over 30 hours of group instruction a week: gi adult classes most mornings and evenings, no-gi on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, a Friday morning Q&A class, and a three-tier youth program from age four run by Marie Thomas (beginners) and Andrew Thomas (advanced). Its open mat is free and open to practitioners from any academy. The 1,400 sq ft facility has private dressing rooms, showers with toiletries and towel service, and a white gi is required.
