About Team Rhino Gracie Jiu-Jitsu

Team Rhino Gracie Jiu-Jitsu in Meridian, Idaho was opened in 1993 by Keith and Shirlane Owen and calls itself Idaho's original and longest-standing jiu-jitsu academy. It runs seven age-banded programs — Baby Rhinos (3-3.5), Mighty Rhinos (3.5-4), Lil Rhinos (4-6), Youth Crash (7-11), Tween (12-14), Adults 15+ and an LEO defensive tactics class — with youth classes taught in six-week sessions and three to six instructors on the mat, and adult classes separated by belt level. The curriculum is explicitly self-defense rather than sport or MMA; Keith Owen earned his 4th-degree black belt under Master Pedro Sauer and after his death in February 2022 Shirlane and around 20 instructors have continued the school, which now has affiliates across the US and Canada.
