About Breakthrough Family Academy of Martial Arts
Breakthrough Family Academy of Martial Arts in Post Falls, Idaho teaches a deliberately blended self-defense system organised by range — grappling (almost entirely Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu), trapping (Tae Kuk Mu Sol joint manipulation with judo, BJJ, chin-na and aikido elements), stand-up (Kenpo Karate with Muay Thai, Taekwondo and Jeet Kune Do influences) and weapons. Its grappling arm runs as Breakthrough & Black Goten BJJ, led by Professor Carl Gonsolin, a 2nd-degree black belt under 4th-degree Teddy Vida and 7th-degree Master Ralph Gracie, who received his black belt in December 2018 after eleven years training and has taught over 4,000 classes and 40 seminars, including specialist training for security teams and for DHS, FBI, DOJ, corrections and local police personnel. Gi and no-gi run for teens and adults with competition and MMA training, and youth and women's-only gi classes were announced to begin in September 2026. The school has been voted the best martial arts studio in Idaho's Panhandle four years running.
