About Alexey BJJ
Alexey BJJ in Westbrook, Maine is affiliated with the De La Riva team and led by Alexey Pickerell, a coral belt with over 37 years in the art. Born in Belém, Brazil, he began training under Master Ricardo De La Riva in 1989-90 and was De La Riva's first student to go from white belt to black belt; he took bronze at the first World Jiu Jitsu Championship in 1996 and settled in Maine in 2007. Most classes are all-levels and taught by Pickerell himself, with twice-weekly Basics classes (Bryan Leclerc on Tuesdays, Austin Miller on Thursdays), advanced classes twice a week, and kids classes on Monday and Wednesday afternoons.
