About Kanjizai Academy of Jiu-Jitsu
Kanjizai Academy of Jiu-Jitsu has taught in Baltimore, MD since 2012, serving Towson, Lutherville Timonium and Baltimore with what it calls traditional and modern combative arts focused squarely on real-world self-defense. It was voted Best Martial Arts School in the Baltimore Sun's 2020 Reader's Choice Awards. Head instructor and owner Kevin Lockett holds a 4th degree black belt in traditional jujutsu, received his first instructor's certification from Grandmaster Shoto Tanemura in Iseshima, Japan in 2006, and became a Certified Gracie Trainer in 2016 after testing with Ryron Gracie, Rener Gracie and Pedro Sauer at the Gracie Academy in Torrance; he has also trained in BJJ, judo, wrestling and kickboxing. Co-owner Monica Lockett is the program director and child-care specialist, and Jimmie Gilmer is a Certified Gracie Trainer, youth jiu-jitsu instructor, combat fitness coach, registered yoga teacher and NSPA personal training specialist.
