About Mack Lewis Boxing Gym
The Mack Lewis Boxing Gym at 913 North Bond Street in the Church Square neighbourhood of East Baltimore was founded in 1951 by Mr. Mack Lewis and is now run by the Mr. Mack Lewis Foundation. It offers low-cost boxing to youth aged 8-18 and to adults 18 and over, with no prior experience needed and equipment provided, under head coach Warren Boardley; advanced athletes compete in sanctioned amateur tournaments and Junior Olympic tryouts. Around a hundred athletes train there, and the Foundation wraps the gym in free community programmes — a summer camp for 70-plus youth, tutoring and mentoring with Johns Hopkins student volunteers, health screenings, and twice-weekly food distribution.
