About Ground Control
Ground Control in Rosedale, MD (8303 Pulaski Hwy, Suite B) is the Baltimore academy of a five-school group that also has Columbia, Owings Mills and Hunt Valley locations in Maryland and one in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. It teaches Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai, boxing, yoga, a women's-only jiu-jitsu class and kids and teens programs. Head instructor John Rallo is a 4th degree black belt under Renzo Gracie and the first Renzo Gracie black belt in Maryland, promoted in November 2006; he began under Rickson Gracie representative Mark Finley in 1998, won the East Coast BJJ Championships, the East Coast Grapplers Cup and Grapplers Quest while still a white belt, went 5-0 in MMA under Renzo, personally drove the legislation that legalised MMA in Maryland and founded and runs SHOGUN, the state's only amateur and professional MMA venue. The staff includes Division 1 wrestler and Bellator veteran Binky Jones, 3rd degree black belt Jamie Rallo, senior BJJ instructor Mark Finley - founder of the Maryland Jiu-Jitsu Academy that preceded Ground Control - and several championship boxers and kickboxers.
