About Japanese Martial Arts Center
The Japanese Martial Arts Center in Ann Arbor, Michigan is a traditional Japanese budo dojo that opened in 2006 under director Nicklaus Suino, who began judo at the Ann Arbor YMCA in 1968 and spent 1988-1992 training judo, jujutsu, iaido and kyudo in Yokohama, winning the All-Kanto iaido tournament at his rank level four times. The dojo teaches four arts — Muso Jikiden Eishin-Ryu iaido, Nihon Jujutsu, Kodokan judo and karate — plus a kids programme and a weekday grappling class, and hosts judo kata tournaments, iaido summits and visiting seminars. Senior instructor John Gage is the current head of the Nihon Jujutsu system founded by Sato Shizuya and programme director at the US Embassy Judo Club in Tokyo.
