Its name is drawn from the Japanese sense of a core where strength, unity and growth meet and the Hawaiian word for warrior. Head Professor Josh Calvo is a 3rd degree black belt with a professional MMA background who teaches fundamentals-first, supported by Professors Jesse and Carl (a black belt promoted by Calvo, with 45 years in martial arts) and coaches Julie, Matt (a founder of the academy) and Jasper.
