About Hawaii Zenyo Jujutsu Kai
Hawaii Zenyo Jujutsu Kai teaches DanZan Ryu Jujitsu of the KoDenKan - the Hawaiian jujitsu system introduced by Professor Henry S. Okazaki in 1924 - at the Daijingu Temple of Hawaii in Nu'uanu Valley, Honolulu, where 2026 marks its 32nd year. Classes run Monday and Wednesday evenings and cover escapes, holds, chokes, throws, striking, kata and weapons alongside the system's healing side: Seifukujutsu restorative massage, Kappo/Katsu martial healing and the study of ki, kiai and meditation, plus unusual specialities such as Mizu Jitsu underwater jujitsu, hula and Hawaiian martial arts, and security guard, hotel, hospital and police courses. The academy also hosts Kupale Hawaii, a women's assault prevention course it says has trained over 12,000 women and girls. Its lineage runs from Okazaki through the KoDenKan of Chico and the Bushidokan of Nevada to Sensei McLaughlin, who founded the school in Honolulu in 1994 and served as AAU JuJitsu chairman for Hawaii. The professors state plainly that they neither endorse nor encourage cage fighting.
