About Boise Studio of Self Defense
Boise Studio of Self Defense is a Shaolin Kempo karate and self-defence dojo on W Overland Rd in Boise, Idaho, led by chief instructor Sensei Tyson, a 5th-degree Kempo black belt with 26 years of training and 19 years teaching who was inducted into the United States Martial Arts Hall of Fame in 2023. Kids karate runs in three age bands -- Tiny Tigers (5-7), Junior Dragons (8-12) and Teens -- with a S.P.A.R.T.A.N. leadership track for older students. The adult programme teaches SAMI Combat, a system blending Krav Maga, jiu-jitsu, judo and Kempo, with an emphasis on practical street-defence techniques and weapons work; the school says Sensei Tyson is one of only two instructors certified to teach it in the country.
