About Salt Lake Capoeira & Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
Salt Lake Capoeira is primarily a capoeira school led by Mestre Jamaika, founder of Volta Miúda Capoeira, which is named after his Afro-Brazilian ancestral quilombo; classes run Mondays and Wednesdays at the SLC Arts Hub at 663 W 100 S and move outdoors to the park in summer. Adult capoeira runs 6:00-7:30 PM and kids' capoeira for ages 6-11 runs 5:00-6:00 PM, with tuition from $90 to $130 a month or $25 per drop-in. Mestre Jamaika is also a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt with over 15 years training under Professor Gustavo Rodrigues and teaches BJJ under the direction of the Gustavo Rodrigues Academy — but privately only, at a separate address, with no group jiu-jitsu classes currently available.
