About Gracie Barra North Spokane
Gracie Barra North Spokane teaches Brazilian jiu-jitsu to adults 18 and over and to kids and teens from age 3 to 18, in one-hour classes built around warm-ups, technique instruction, drilling and sparring. Its adult programme is oriented toward practical self-defense, and its students have medalled at IBJJF, American Grappling Federation and World Grappling Federation events. Head instructor Herbert Maeda is a 4th-degree black belt born in Brazil in 1987 of Japanese and Brazilian descent, whose family line traces back to Mitsuyo Maeda and whose own belt lineage runs Mitsuyo Maeda to Carlos Gracie to Hélio Gracie to Frederico Pimentel to Maeda; the school emphasises that its instruction comes from Brazilian-born instructors.
